Fusionopolis Two, or F2, is an advanced research facility developed by JTC that is envisioned to be the home for R&D and innovation in science and engineering activities. F2 brings together several of A*STAR’s research institutes as well as many private companies under one roof, accelerating cross-disciplinary as well as public-private collaboration in R&D and innovation. Opened by Prime Minister Lee in October 2015, F2 marks another milestone in the further development of one-north. The one-north Master Plan, which was conceived and designed by Pritzker Architecture Prize winner Zaha Hadid, consciously adopts a work-live-play-learn concept, integrating industry-centric work developments with residential communities, lifestyle options and educational opportunities, with Fusionopolis being one of several precincts in one-north.

F2 comprises 3 new buildings providing about 100,000 sqm of business park and research and development space. Offices and laboratories are housed in the 18-storey Innovis and 11-storey Kinesis Towers.

The Synthesis tower houses the largest R&D cleanroom space in Singapore, and is the first multi-storey cleanroom in Singapore with a vibration sensitivity of Vibration Criterion Class E, that is intended to pro- vide a conducive environment for vibration sensitive research activities. In achieving such high vibration sensitivity, a “shield and core” concept was adopted to isolate the structures and foundations from external vibration sources. This was further reinforced by the use of K-Bracing in the design to damp away much of the vibration. Honeycomb slabs with structural thickness of 1400mm, were also sandwiched between levels of laboratories and cleanrooms to increase the structural stability of the building and segregate the equipment from the cleanrooms and laboratories to create a vibration-free environment. As a lead industrial developer, JTC is constantly promoting sustainability in its developments, and F2 is no exception.

Greenery has been incorporated in F2, such as its sky terraces, view corridors and landscape plazas that adhere to urban design and green environmental guidelines. The curtain wall of the building façade is specified with aluminum cladding and double-glazed units with low emissivity, lending a modern corporate quality to the aesthetics of the building while not compromising the thermal performance of the façade. In promoting environment sustainability. Much of the architectural materials adopt-ed in the project are certified under the Singapore Green Labeling Scheme. To obtain substantial savings in energy consumption, the high energy usage is addressed with the specification of high-performance M&E systems and other efficient systems.

F2 was awarded the Green Mark Platinum Award, and the Bronze award in the Best Mixed Use Development for MIPIM Asia Awards 2015, a winner in the Architecture, Best Urban Design and Master Planning Categories in the Cityscape Awards in 2009, and a finalist in WAF2015.
